Important Information On Sex Offender WEB Site Flier Being Circulated

A recent Colorado Springs Gazette article reported about a notice being posted on area homes' front doors. The notice says a sex offender has moved into the area and directs them to a paid WEB Site to find out more. The WEB Site has a free trial period and then a subscription rate after that (for schools and day cares it says it's always free).

NOTICE: THE INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE WEB SITE IS AVAILABLE FREE DIRECTLY FROM LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES

Monument residents are advised not to be concerned about any new neighbors that triggered the announcement. The notices have been indiscriminately posted on homes throughout the Front Range (about a month ago in Colorado Springs and more recently in Monument).

Information on the notice and on-line resources for finding out about sex offenders in the local area can be accessed via the following links:

LoJack Donates Theft Recovery Tracking Unit To Monument Police Department

In partnership with one of the world leaders in stolen vehicle tracking and recovery, the Monument Police Department now has a new tool to identify and recover stolen vehicles. On 5/31/07, LoJack donated one of their patented radio frequency based stolen vehicle tracking units to the Monument Police Department. Additionally, LoJack has provided free training to the department and installed the unit into one of the MPD's newly marked patrol vehicles.

Chief Shirk explained that "In consideration of rising national motor vehicle theft rates and increasing costs to victims, this technology serves as an important tool to combat such thefts and with the apprehension and ultimate prosecution of the offenders."

The LoJack System can be purchased for placement onto your car, truck, motorcycle, construction, fleet, farm, and rental equipment through many car dealers or directly from LoJack for a one-time cost and without monthly maintenance fees. A small transceiver is installed discreetly on the vehicle or equipment and when a theft is reported to the police the unit is automatically activated. Active units transmit an inaudible signal that can be detected by law enforcement authorities equipped with LoJack tracking units. Currently, over five million vehicles are equipped with LoJack. LoJack reports an over 90% success rate of the recovery of vehicles and equipment outfitted with the LoJack System.

The Monument PD joins over fifty other police departments, sheriff's offices, and state and federal law enforcement agencies in Colorado that use the tracking technology. We are pleased to partner with LoJack in service to our citizens, merchants, and visitors.
