Road Issues

Roads Status Updates: (03/01/2008)
Baptist Road, Jackson Creek Parkway, & I-25 Interchange
After numerous requests for assistance with problems on the local roads, we contacted the appropriate authorities for assistance:

Jackson Creek Pkwy (JCP) & Baptist Rd (BR)
Contacted Byron Glenn (Mayor, Town of Monument) about the pot holes and cracks on JCP north of BR. At the Mayor's suggestion, Rich Landreth (Public Works Director, Town of Monument) agreed to take the lead in supervising the repairs by Triview contractors or perform them directly. Repairs completed 02/22/2008.

Baptist Rd (BR) between Jackson Creek Crossing east entrance & Jackson Creek Pkwy (JCP)
Contacted El Paso County DOT about the pot hole in the westbound lane just before the JCP intersection. Repairs completed 02/25/2008.

I-25 & Baptist Rd (BR) interchange
Multiple problems reported. Traffic signal timings, pot holes, and missing Stop Bar (white line on road de-marking where to stop at intersection).

  • Traffic Signals: I-25 Interchange & Jackson Creek Pwy
Contacted CDOT Regional Traffic Operations Engineer to request adjustment to timing of traffic signals for off ramps during rush hour periods. CDOT observed and temporarily adjusted the timing of the I-25 & BR traffic signals for peak traffic periods (the clock apparently had reset and was way off).

Contacted EPC DOT to request adjustment to timing of traffic signal at JCP & BR during rush hour periods. EPC DOT observed the lights at JCP & BR noting that the detection equipment was not working properly and the timing was incorrect. The contractor has been contacted to make adjustments.

Contacted CDOT Regional Traffic Operations Engineer and EPC DOT to request coordination of timing for traffic signals at I-25 & BR interchange with those at JCP & BR intersection. CDOT and EPC DOT agreed to cooperate and install hardware to permanently maintain synchronization between the two sets of traffic signals. Anticipated completed is Spring 2008.

  • Missing Stop Bars at I-25 Interchange
Contacted Highway Maintenance Supervisor and EPC DOT Director explaining what a safety issue this becomes at night. EPC DOT contacted the BRRTA contractor who was striping BR at the time and added the Stop Bar on westbound BR at Struthers Rd (the most critical safety issue) to their project list. CDOT indicated it have a crew come out in mid-March when the weather is warmer for better application to complete the remainder of the striping. Westbound BR Stop Bar should have been added on 02/29/2008, otherwise 03/03/2008 (weather permitting).

  • Pot Holes on Approach & Overpass at I-25 Interchange
CDOT Highway Maintenance Supervisor has committed to visit the interchange on 02/03/2008 to determine what immediate temporary repairs are needed and to schedule them as soon as possible.
Construction of I-25 & Baptist Road interchange
CDOT has indicated they expect the bid/contract process to be completed Spring 2008 with construction to start Summer 2008. Projected completion is 18-24 months (dependent upon utility relocations and weather).

The light at the end of the tunnel is relief but it is still a bit off in the distance. Hopefully, some of these other repairs will make things a little safer in the interim.
